More than 400 young people from Brazil, Argentina, Uruguay, Chile and Bolivia boarded the ship Theodor Herzl bound for Israel. Two previous groups had left by air. Almost 300 additional youngsters are slated to depart by ship next weekend.
The Israel Embassy here denied rumors that appeared in the press that the young people went to Israel to join the Israeli army. Brazil’s constitution forbids its citizens from joining the armed forces of foreign countries.
