The biggest airlift of any American Jewish organization to Israel was underway today for 400 leaders of community campaigns affiliated with the nationwide United Jewish Appeal who are bound for the UJA Anniversary Conference to be opened in Jerusalem on June 24.

A relay of planes is carrying out the airlift from New York International Airport, with the majority of the UJA group leaving via El Al Israel Airlines. The airlift group will be among the more than 700 American visitors–key UJA leaders, campaigners, contributors and their families and guests–who will attend the three-day sessions.

The forthcoming UJA Anniversary Conference in Jerusalem will be the first UJA national assemblage ever held overseas. Leading the conferees are Edward M. M. Warburg, UJA honorary chairman; Samuel H. Daroff, UJA national cash chairman; Melvin W. Dubinsky of St. Louis, and Adolph Kiesler of Denver, both UJA national cabinet members, and Rabbi Herbert A, Friedman, UJA executive vice-chairman. Mr. Warburg, who is also chairman of the Joint Distribution Committee, will stop over in Geneva, Switzerland, to preside at a conference of JDC officials.
