Capt. Neil F. Israel was awarded $4,000 as damages in a libel action against the Daily Graphic and other newspapers for a story published last November purporting that Israel war engaged in conveying illegal immigrants to Palestine.
The plaintiff served in the Royal Navy during the war where he had a distinguished record. The Graphic published a prominently-displayed apology today, blaming the error on its correspondent.
