41 Groups in Rallies in Federation’s Drive for City Institutions

The appeal for $4,200,000 which will finance a supporting budget for ninety-one affiliates of the Federation for the Support of Jewish Philanthropic Societies will be widely publicized this week. Forty-one meetings of business and professional leaders, as well as prominent women, are scheduled before the end of the month.

Confidence that the Federation’s 2,500 volunteer workers who have mobilized their facilities in a concentrated money-raising drive, will be successful, was expressed in a statement issued by Paul and Benjamin J. Buttenweiser, campaign chairmen.

“The success of the campaign becomes daily more imperative,” read the statement. “Each day brings reports of an increasing need from our hospitals, child-care institutions, homes and direct-relief agencies. In this the fifth year of the depression, we realize that something more than food, shelter and clothing must be given to the thousands of victims of the crisis. They must be nursed back to health, given new spirit and ambition and restored to their positions as productive citizens.”

Team captains in the Red Division of the Federation, headed by Mrs. Alfred A. Cook, will meet at luncheon at the Hotel Carlyle tomorrow. White division leaders will hold a luncheon meeting at the home of their commander, Mrs. Arthur Lehman, Wednesday. The Blue Division will meet at luncheon at the home of Mrs. Irvin Untermyer Thursday. The division is headed by Mrs. Joseph Brettauer and Mrs. Untermyer.

The drive will also concentrate on raising about $15,000 at a meeting of leaders in the brewing industry, and about $150,000 at the Federation Real Estate Club. Rabbi Louis I. Newman, of Temple Rodeph Sholem, will join the committee designed to raise about $7,500.
