Some 450 Jews emigrated from Argentine to Israel in 1954, Mordecai Koifman, director of the Zionist Central Council here, announced today. Mr. Koifman added that he expects emigration for 1955 to exceed this figure.
The largest group among the 450 were 185 chalutzim who received their agricultural training in Argentine before they left. Seventy others were parents of pioneers who had earlier settled in Israel, and most of whom were leaving to join their children. Among the remainder were professionals, youths and middle class families going to settle in a special Argentine village near Ram.
Mr. Koifman revealed that his office, which represents the Jewish Agency in Argentina, also made arrangements for the emigration of 25 Bolivian Jews who left for Israel.
Argentine Foreign Minister Dr. Jeronimo Remorino received Israel Minister Dr. Arieh Kubovi today for a discussion of a number of problems of mutual interest to Israel and Argentina. During the interview, Dr. Kubovi thanked the Foreign Minister and President Peron for their intervention in behalf of the two Jews executed in Cairo.
