More than 450 Jewish leaders from the United States, Canada and other parts of the world will leave for Israel on Saturday at the invitation of Premier Yitzhak Rabin to participate in an extraordinary conference on the country’s grave economic problems. The week-long conference from Jan. 26 through Feb. 1 will also initiate a year of celebrations in Israel and the U.S. and Canada marking the 25th anniversary of the founding of the Israel Bond program.
Heading the conference will be Sam Rothberg, general chairman, and Michael Arnon, president and chief executive officer of the Israel Bond Organization. They said the conference “will address itself to the serious financial difficulties that beset Israel today and explore the most effective ways of alleviating them.”
During the conference the participants will confer with Rabin, Finance Minister Yehoshua Rabinowitz, Defense Minister Shimon Peres and other leading members of the government on how Jews in the United States, Canada and other countries can help strengthen Israel’s economic development in 1975 and provide jobs for new immigrants from the Soviet Union and other countries. Special events at the Prime Minister’s conference will focus on two special areas of Israel’s development, energy and transportation.
