No fewer than 46 Jewish communities throughout the country will launch their campaigns for the United Jewish Appeal within the next month in the first phase of the Fall drive to raise an unprecedented sum for the emergency needs in 1939 of the Joint Distribution Committee, the United Palestine Appeal and the National Refugee Service, Inc.
The Jewish community of Alaska is this year, for the first time in its history, conducting an organized campaign in behalf of the U.J.A. The campaign embraces every community in the northern territory. The drive began late in July and will continue in fourteen Alaska communities until early in October, when the towns in the northern section of Alaska become more or less isolated for the duration of the winter.
