Five Jewish students, and three Polish Progressive students defending the Jews were injured today in anti-Semitic clashes at Warsaw University.
Jewish students were lauded as “martyrs leaving for the university in the morning, not knowing whether they will return alive in the evening, “said Deputy Emil Sommerstein, addressing Parliament. He expressed regret that only Polish workers, but not Polish democracy, protested anti-Semitism. He rebuked statements of Premier Skladkowski and Foreign Minister Beck that the Jewish problem was acute for economic reasons, declaring anti-Semitism was political, since the system ruined Jewish stores and replaced them with newly-opened non-Jewish stores.
