A total of 500 Jewish refugees sailed from the ports of Bari and Venice on two Israel-bound transports, the S.S. Eilath and S.S. Campo d’Oglio. The displaced Jews en route to the port of Haifa come from Hungary, Italy and Tripolitania. More than half of them resided for some time in various Italian DP camps.
