Jewish relief committees here are at their wits’ end in their efforts to cope with the acute distress being suffered by the approximately 5,000 Jewish refugees from Thra##. The relief workers have sufficient means only to supply the refugees with a small part of their actual needs.
Despite the Turkish government’s assurances that they would be protected if they returned to their former homes, the refugees persist in adopting a distrustful attitude. This distrust has been accentuated since the experience of a few of the Jewish families who took the government’s word, returned to their old homes and then were forced once more to flee as a result of the continued anti-Semitic menace.
