More than a half-million copies of the works of Sholem Aleichem, famous Yiddish humorist, in Russian translations have been sold in the Soviet Union during the five years between 1925 and 1930, according to an article appearing in the Minsk Yiddish Zeitshrift. During those years 30 works of Sholem Aleichem appeared in Russian translations, 27 in Ukrainian translations and one in a White Russian translation.
