More than 800 Jewish social workers, center workers and educators from some 300 communities gathered here today for the 53rd national conference of Jewish Communal Service. The sessions will be held through June 5th.
The conference theme, set by President Martin M. Cohn, who is also executive director of the Jewish Federation of Minneapolis, is to determine “how the American Jewish Community can fulfill its heavy responsibilities of world leadership and the provision of financial support for communal services abroad, throughout the nation, and in local communities. Strong local community organization, based on strong local community and welfare services is the key to this conference and to the problem itself,” Mr. Cohn stated. “In common with all social work, Jewish communal services require the development of highly competent, professional personnel and the strengthening of local services based on a farsighted appraisal of human needs.”
Concurrent annual meetings of the National Council for Jewish Education and of the National Association of Jewish Center Workers are also being held at the conference.
