A total of 5,794 Jewish immigrants arrived in Israel yesterday and today Four hundred of the new arrivals landed here this morning from North Africa while 469–most of them from Greece–reached the Jewish state yesterday aboard the S.S. Tampa. The largest contingent came aboard the S.S. Bulgaria which brought 3,850 Jews from Bulgaria and Rumania. Over 1,000 immigrants from western Europe landed in Israel yesterday aboard two vessels.
Meanwhile, 1,000,000 gift food parcels, as well as machinery and an ambulance, arrived here yesterday aboard the S.S. Isle Patmos. The cargo, collected by the B’nai B’rith Grand Lodge in the U.S. for distribution among Israeli war veterans, was accepted by the Haifa district of B’nai B’rith.
