6 Israeli Soldiers Killed, 6 Wounded in Action Since Last Thursday

Six Israeli soldiers were killed and six others were wounded in shooting and mining incidents in the Suez Canal zone, the Araba area south of the Dead Sea and in the southern Gaza Strip since last Thursday, a military spokesman disclosed. A seventh Israeli soldier died today of wounds he received in a clash with Arab guerrillas near El Hamma two months ago. He was identified as Nahum Aharon, 21.

Two Israeli soldiers, Privates Sallah Sallah and Claude Pinto, were killed Thursday night during an Egyptian mortar attack across the Suez Canal. Sgt. Shlomo Linkenberg was killed by Egyptian mortar fire Friday night. The mining of an Army vehicle near Hatzeva in the Araba region took the lives of Housein Guanama, Jacob Mandel and Sigmund Wander. Three other soldiers were injured in the same incident and three more were injured when their vehicle struck a mine nine miles north of the Gaza Strip town of Raffah.

Four Arab saboteurs were killed last night in clashes with Israeli patrols in the Golan Heights and near Beer Menuha, south of the Dead Sea. There were no Israeli casualties in either of the encounters.

Israeli and Egyptian forces battled with mortars and artillery for 40 minutes last night in the Suez Canal zone. Several mortar shells were fired during the night at Beth Yossef settlement in the Beisan Valley. The shells came from Jordanian territory. A military spokesman said the region has been generally quiet as a result of recent Israeli ground and air assaults on guerrilla bases.

A Nablus Arab died last night of wounds received when a hand grenade exploded at the entrance to the Nablus branch of the Bank Leumi where he was a watchman last Monday. Three other local residents who were injured have been released from the hospital.
