Six men charged with setting fire to a London synagogue on July 31, who were remanded a week ago, were charged at a hearing in a magistrate’s court here yesterday with setting fire to a second synagogue. The first charge involved the Shaare Shomayim Synagogue in Capton, North London. The second concerned a synagogue in Neehive Lane in Ilford, a London suburb.
David Hopkin, the prosecutor, urged the court to deny the six suspects bail, asserting that they themselves “may well be in danger because of the nature of the charges.” He also told the court that witnesses to the arson attacks had been “approached” and were in fear. The court ordered the six men remanded in custody until November 22.
