600 Tons of Kosher Meat Supplied to Jews in Reich

Six hundred tons of kosher meat were supplied to Jewish individuals and institutions in Germany during the first eight months of 1937, the Jewish Friends Food Fund, which is headed by Chief Rabbi Joseph H. Hertz, reported today. Kosher slaughtering is forbidden in the Reich.

Meat was supplied to 25,000 individuals and 15,000 inmates of 205 Jewish institutions. The institutions include 24 hospitals, 44 homes for the aged, 87 youth homes and hachshara (Zionist training) centers, 30 soup kitchens and 23 other institutions. During Jewish holidays every ritual-observing family in Germany was supplied with meat.

The fund collected, during the eight months $103,000 in donations from every part of the world, including Alaska, the Dutch East Indies and China. Administration expenses totalled two per cent, according to the report.
