Some 6,000 Jews were machine-gunned to death by Gestapo units in Nazi-held Poland, it is reported today by Polish official circles here on the basis of information received from reliable sources in Poland.
The massacre, according to the report, took place in September soon after the Nazi authorities in Warsaw announced the establishment of new labor camps for Jews in the region of Lomzha. These camps were established on large fields between the townships of Czyzew and Zaremby-Koscielna.
Upon the arrival of the first contingents of Jews at these camps, the Gestapo ordered 6,000 of them to descend into trenches left there by the Russian army in the early weeks of the Russo-German war. Once in the trenches the Jews, according to the report, were ordered to kneel in rows. They were then all mowed down by machine-guns.
A similar massacre of Jews, though on a smaller scale, took place in Rzeszow, Galicia, where several hundred Jews were, according to the same report, killed by machine-guns.
Addressing the National Vigilance Association in London today, Wanda Grabinska, honorary secretary of the International Union of Judges, reported that children between nine and sixteen years old are being executed by the Nazis in Poland “for political activities.” During the evacuation of the Jewish population from one part of Poland to the other, a newly-born child was thrown out of a railroad car by a Gestapo agent, the child’s mother related.
