The 60th anniversary of the founding of the Jewish National Fund will be observed tomorrow with three rallies in Jerusalem, Tel Aviv and Haifa. Prime Minister David Ben-Gurion is scheduled to address the Jerusalem rally with former Premier Moshe Sharett and Labor Minister Yigal Allon slated to appear in Tel Aviv and Haifa.
The Jewish National Fund was founded by the World Zionist Organization during the meeting of the Fifth Zionist Congress in Basel, Switzerland, in December 1901. The aims of the organization was to acquire the soil of Palestine as national and inalienable property and to carry out drainage and afforestation on the land. The idea of the JNF was first conceived by Dr. Hermann Schapira, professor of mathematics at the University of Heidelberg.
