FOLLOWING A DINNER LAST NIGHT AT THE HOTEL COMMODORE, MORE THAN 5,500 CAMPAIGN WORKERS TODAY BEGAN THE TASK OF ENLISTING GIFTS TOWARD THE $6,250,000 GOAL OF THE COMBINED NEW YORK AND BROOKLYN JEWISH CHARITY FEDERATIONS — THE LARGEST DRIVE EVER UNDERTAKEN FOR LOCAL WELFARE PURPOSES.
SPEAKERS AT THE DINNER, ATTENDED BY 2,000 CIVIC AND BUSINESS LEADERS, STRESSED THE NECESSITY OF INCREASED GENEROSITY TO MEET THE 1937 BUDGET OF THE 116 AGENCIES SUPPORTED BY THE TWO FEDERATIONS. A 52 PER CENT AVERAGE INCREASE IN CONTRIBUTIONS MUST BE SECURED IF THE CAMPAIGN IS TO SUCCEED, IT WAS POINTED OUT.
