The first big American event to help launch Word Refugee Year, which gets under way in July under United Nations auspices, has been scheduled for May 7 in New York, where 63 foreign Ambassadors will be feted on the eve of the opening here of the United States World Trade Fair.
The May 7 event here, a dinner honoring the Ambassadors, will have Mayor Robert F. Wagner as the official host, and will be attended by representatives of the Federal and State governments. Tr. August R. Lindt, UN High Commissioner for Refugees, will care here especially from his headquarters at Geneva to address the assemblage.
World Refugee Year is intended as an effort to find permanent homes for about 2,000,000 refugees in the world, including “hard-core” cases among Jewish refugees in Europe, as well as the Arab refugees in the Middle East.
The dinner is being held for the benefit of the U. S. Committee for Refugees, the group responsible for American participation in World Refugee Year.
