The United Hias Service assisted 7,000 Jews from European and North African countries to migrate to countries other than Israel during the past Jewish year, it was announced here by Harold Traube, director of United Hias.
The largest number of immigrants, 1,700, went to the United States, he revealed, while more than 1,500 settled in Australia. The movement to Australia, he reported, had become particularly important and, in the past eight months, had outstripped immigration to the United States.
