President Nixon was endorsed for re-election yesterday by seven Orthodox and Hasidic leaders. The endorsement, released by the White House, cited Nixon’s “efforts to bring about a just and lasting peace so badly needed in a troubled world.”
The letter praised Nixon’s “noble efforts in inspiring our country toward a greater commitment of moral values,” his “leadership in stabilizing urban communities by restoring respect for and confidence in our judicial system,” and his “most positive contribution to our entire educational system” through “financial aid to private and parochial schools.”
The endorsement was signed by Rabbi Joseph Ashkenazy, secretary to Grand Rabbi Joel Teitelbaum of United Satmar Institutes; Rabbi Martin Berkowitz, executive director, Central Rabbinical Congress of the USA and Canada; Rabbi Leopold Friedman, executive vice-president, United Talmudical Academy; Rabbi Chaim M. Stauber, secretary, National Committee of Orthodox Jewish Communities; Sender Deutsch, editor-publisher, Der Yid and other publications; Rabbi H. Frankel, chairman, Beth Rachel Educational System; and Berl Fried-man, chairman, Yeshiva Torah V’Yirah of Boro Park (Brooklyn, N.Y.).
