Some 5,000 to 7,000 of the 12,000 Jewish refugees now in Austria are eligible to enter the United States under the provision of the DP immigration bill recently passed by the Senate and House of Representatives, Harold Trobe, Joint Distribution Committee director in Austria, said here today.
He estimated that the Jewish DP’s eligible to enter the United States would be able to do so within the next 12 months. Mr. Trobe also said that approximately 3,000 Jews will go to Israel in the next year, while 1,000 will go to Australia for resettlement, and another 1,000 will be relocated in Canada and various other countries.
