A letter containing 7000 names of Jews and non-Jews in this community has been sent to President Ford calling upon him “to intervene on behalf of the 4500 Jews of Syria who live under conditions which are in violation of the United Nations Declaration of Human Rights and are offensive to all people of humanity.”
The letter, which was signed by Rabbi Jacob Ott, chairman, Commission on the Middle East, Community Relations Committee of the Jewish Federation-Council of Greater Los Angeles, outlined in detail the plight of Syrian Jews. The letter to Ford concluded: “We are confident that with your proven commitment to justice, freedom and humanity, coupled with your sense of compassion and good will, you will do that which you must to remedy this deplorable violation of human life and rights.”
