Three vessels carrying 800 Jewish refugees were sighted yesterday morning off Nathania and taken into custody by Government forces. The vessels were a motor launch schooner and said boat. The launch was beached by its crew and the other craft were escorted to Haifa.
The refugees comprised survivors of the Panamanian steamship Rim which was destroyed by fire last month off the Italian island of Rhodes in addition to other Jews expelled from Rhodes all of whom embarked at the island on the Greek steamer Aghios Incholaus and were transferred to the smaller craft 30 miles of Palestine’s coast. Those taken to Haifa included 80 children under 13 and 50 women.
