Previous reports that all Jews who took refuge in Nice during the Italian occupation in order to escape the Gestapo were trapped by the Germans and deported are denied in information reaching here today which indicates that about 8,000 Jews are presently residing there. About eighty percent of these are foreign Jews.
A provisional Jewish committee established in Nice has sent a desperate appeal to the Jewish organization here appealing for financial assistance to aid the destitute. The Marseille organization has also learned that there are about 50 Jewish families in Aix-en-Province who need assistance.
