The British and United States Governments jointly are prepared to appropriate eight million dollars to the International Red Cross for any project recommended by the Intergovernmental Committee for Refugees, it was announced today. The announcement confirms a similar statement made by Assistant Secretary of State Breckinridge Long before the House Foreign Affairs Committee.
Jewish organizations here, interested in relief and rescue work, expressed the hope that the agreement reached between the Jewish Agency and the Red Cross in Turkey for the delivery of food and clothing to Jews in Transnistria will be extended also to Jews in other occupied countries in Europe. It is understood that the arrangement for Transnistria was made with the full approval of the Allied governments. Under this arrangement the fifty thousand Rumanian Jews deported to Transnistria will receive 50,000 packages of food and clothing through the Red Cross.
