A list of 8,321 Jewish aliens of 28 nationalities who have volunteered their se vices to the Belgian Government in the present emergency was today submitted to Lieut. Gen. Henri Denis, National Defence Minister, by a delegation of Jewish leaders headed by Max Gottschalk and Leon Kubowitzki. The list includes 1,077 persons holding military rank.
Gen. Denis congratulated the delegation on the spirit displayed by the country’s Jewish foreigners.
It was reliably learned, meanwhile, that the recent decree empowering the Justice Ministry to bar, expel or intern foreigners whose presence was considered dangerous from the political, economic and social viewpoint, was not directed specifically against Jews. Assurances were given that the Government would not make expulsions to belligerent countries, while only particularly suspect foreigners and persons subject to legal prosecution would be interned.
