About 89 percent of Italy’s population opposes the Government’s anti-Jewish policy, Mrs. Anne O’Hare McCormick said in a Rome dispatch to the New York Times today. The measures are so “universally unpopular,” she said, that Rome shopkeepers are not displaying “Nationalist” and “Aryan” posters distributed to them and Italian boys could not be hired for 25 lire to break windows of Jewish shops. This is the first policy for which Premier Mussolini has not been able to find popular support, the dispatch said.
