Over 900,000 Jews need to be colonized, was the statement of Chemerinski, one of the leaders in the colonization undertakings. Mr. Chemerinski declared that he disagrees with J. Larin, president of the Ozet, Jewish colonization society, who stated that 350,000 Jews in Russia are in economic distress.
Seventy per cent of the 900,000 must in the course of time be settled in the colonies, placed in artisan cooperatives and in industrialization undertakings. Chemerinski stated. The other 30% will probably be absorbed in general government undertakings. Mr. Chemerinski criticized the Ozet head for his attitude toward the Biro-Bidjan project. In the course of time emigration there will be of a healthier nature. Simultaneously, he believes that the Crimea is becoming greatly important for the Jews because the district has great prospects for Jewish colonization and Jewish industrialization.
