James Oviatt, Los Angeles haberdasher who is suing the Anti-Defamation League, the Southern California B’nai B’rith Council, the California Jewish Voice, the Heritage, columnist David Weissman and others for libel, asking $10,200,000 damages, is, in a cross complaint being sued by the ADL and Milton Senn, its Pacific Southwest director in counter-complaint asking $600,000 in damages.
The counter-complaint is based on a pamphlet alleged to be issued by Mr. Oviatt in which the ADL is a “Gestapo organization,” and that Mr. Senn was an agent of the ADL “Gestapo.” The only defendants in the Oviatt action to be served were the ADL and Mr. Senn. Representing Mr. Oviatt is attorney Jack Tenny, long associated with Gerald L.K. Smith.
