A delegation of some 75 American Orthodox rabbis arrived in Israel to lobby Knesset members to support a controversial conversion bill that would codify the Orthodox movement’s sole authority over Jewish conversions performed in Israel. Meeting with Knesset members and rabbinic leaders, the delegation, which was spearheaded by the devoutly Orthodox Agudath Israel of America, stressed that compromise could only be reached in business matters, not in religious affairs.
