A delegation representing the Jewish Democratic Committee today called on Soviet Ambassador Sergyei I. Kavitaruhse, urging that he intervene to secure the repatriation from the USSR of Transylvanian Jews who were conscripted into slave labor battalions during the war by the Hungarian Army, which ruled Transylvania.
The conscripts were captured on the Eastern front by the Red Army, and 5,000 are still being held in Russia as prisoners of war. The Ambassador sympathetically received the request and promised to convey it to Moscow.
