Charles S. Zimmerman, a vice-president of the International Ladies Garment Workers Union and chairman of the Anti-discrimination Department of the Jewish Labor Committee, was appointed by George Meany, AFL-CIO president, to be the head of the AFL-CIO’s national committee dealing with racial and religious discrimination.
