A fervently Orthodox leader is continuing to fight for his life at a hospital in Israel. Rabbi Eliezer Menachem Mann Schach, 103, dean of the Ponevezh Yeshiva in Bnai Brak and leader of the non-Chasidic, “Lithuanian” branch of fervent Orthodoxy, was outspoken on Israeli political issues and Jewish issues until he became bedridden in 1996.
