A Florida legislative committee passed a bill Wednesday that would toughen penalties for crimes committed against people praying in houses of worship. The bill, sponsored by Rep. Tim Ryan of Dania Beach, would double the sentences of those convicted of carrying out crimes against worshipers in a synagogue, church or mosque, the Sun-Sentinel reported.
