A former French official currently on trial for his role in the deportation of Jews during the Holocaust said he did not know Jews were being sent to their deaths when he ordered their arrests. Maurice Papon is charged with deporting 1,560 Jews while he was a Vichy official in the Bordeaux region during World War II.
