A former member of the Nazi SS partially admitted to participating in a wartime massacre in Italy. Alfred Mathias Concina, 86, who lives in an old-age home in the German city of Freiberg, told the German radio broadcaster Mitteldeutsche Rundfunk that he was involved in the incident in the village of Sant’Anna di Stazzema in which 560 civilians — mostly children, women and older men — were murdered, but said he shot past the victims.
