A French commission unanimously recommended legislation to ban the wearing of all visible religious insignia in state schools. The chairman of the commission, National Assembly Speaker Jean-Louis Debre, said Wednesday that a consensus had been reached among legislators either to propose a new law or add an amendment to a wider motion on education set for early next year.
