A German court paved the way for heirs of one of Germany’s most successful pre-World War II Jewish families to receive restitution. The decision by the German High Court this week against the KarstadtQuelle company upholds a decision in favor of the heirs to the Wertheim department store chain. The money awarded to the heirs came from the sale of property that was part of the family’s holdings, property seized by the Nazis in the 1930s and then bought by a private company after the fall of communism in the former East Germany in 1994.
