A German Jewish leader said his government must investigate the disappearance of documents relating to Nazi-looted gold. Michel Friedmann, a member of the Central Council of Jews in Germany, said he could not believe that no one knew how the folders, known as the Melmer files, had vanished. A recent report by Germany’s Federal Archives said the files likely disappeared in the 1970s.
