A group devoted to preserving historical sites named three synagogues on its list of the 100 most endangered sites worldwide. On its List of Most Endangered Sites 2000, the New York-based World Monuments Fund included the Kahal Shalom Synagogue on the Greek island of Rhodes; the Jodensavanne Archaeological Site in Redi Doti, Suriname; and the Zhovka Synagogue in Zhovka, Ukraine. In addition, the Tel-Dan Canaanite Gate, near Kibbutz Dan in Israel, also made the list.
