A group of gay and lesbian Reform rabbis called for same-sex civil marriages. The Gay and Lesbian Rabbinic Network, a group of more than 100 gay and lesbian rabbis, said clergy of all faiths should be allowed to perform same-sex civil unions as well as religious ceremonies. Co-chairperson Victor Appell of Temple Emanu-El in Edison, N.J., said that “as agents of the state we sign marriage licenses, and we look forward to the day when same-sex couples can come forward and sign marriage licenses too.”
