A growing number of Israeli legislators are calling for canceling the direct election of the prime minister and reverting to the previous system of casting a single ballot for a political party by the next elections, which could take place next year. The Israeli daily Ma’ariv reported that 60 Knesset members, from both sides of the political spectrum, have signed a petition calling for the reform.
