A Jewish Community Council, consisting of nearly all religious, social, fraternal and charitable organizations in the city, has been organized here under the leadership of Rabbi S. Joshua Kohn of Temple Beth El, Judge H. Myron Lewis and Isaac Zacks, president of the oldest local orthodox congregation.
The aim of the Council is to promote all phases of the Jewish community life in Utica, and unify the various Jewish causes here and abroad. Once a year it will conduct a drive for national and international purposes, such as relief for the German Jewry and the upbuilding of Palestine.
The present plan of the Council permits every Jew in Utica, irrespective of age, to join, provided he has paid his annual dues. The dues, which will amount to several thousands of dollars a year, will be used solely for local, educaticnal, religious and social activities.
