A Jewish memorial in Berlin was vandalized. According to a police spokeswoman, the incident took place in broad daylight Tuesday, but the perpetrators escaped before they could be arrested. The spokeswoman said the vandals apparently threw small paving stones, gouging the surface of a memorial dedicated to the former Levetzowstrasse synagogue, which was used by the Nazis as a detention center to deport Jews.
