A longtime Israeli hawk and former Cabinet minister is retiring from politics. Rafael Eitan served as the Israel Defense Force chief of staff in the 1982 Lebanon War. He has also served as Agriculture Minister and Education Minister during his tenure in the Knesset, which began in 1984, and founded the Tsomet Party in 1988.
