A magistrate’s court refused today to order police to return Rabbi Meir Kahane’s passport, Judge Yosef Weiss noted that Kahane’s passport had been confiscated as a result of criminal charges pending against him and was insurance that the Jewish Defense League leader would appear in court for trial. Kahane’s lawyer indicated that he would appeal. Kahane’s ran for the Knesset last month but failed to win enough votes for a seat which would have given him immunity against prosecution in the pending cases which include attempts to smuggle arms out of Israel.
