A man who told police he had prevented a firebomb attack at a Connecticut synagogue admitted he made up the story to get out of criminal charges. Joseph Yellen had initially said that he had scared off two youths who were set to bomb Congregation Beth El on Nov. 2. Yellen told police that he had planted the Molotov cocktails in the synagogue to support the story because he thought it would help him get a deal on charges of theft. Yellen could face a year in prison for falsely reporting the incident.
