A Massachusetts school committee may name a school after the only Portuguese Gentile recognized by Jerusalem’s Yad Vashem for saving Jews in the Holocaust. The New Bedford school committee is considering a proposal to rename the Mount Pleasant Street School after Aristides de Sousa Mendes, according to New Bedford’s Portuguese Times newspaper.
